In You Seven Hawks

Dark and Proud You Stood

A Fire Deeply Burning

In You

Your Life Sang of Strength

The Calm of Wheat On An

Open Plain

In You, We Saw All The Possibilities We Have

But He Stole You From
Us Like A Petty Thief
Now We Weep In Our
Grief

Fly Seven Hawks For Our
Loss Is Your Gain
Be Free In You

Memories: From Ann

Seven Hawks at Hop Brook School in 2nd grade

Seven Hawks loved the adventure of traveling and learning about different places, people and cultures.

It never bothered him to move from place to place as long as he was with those he loved.

He was a happy and thriving child. This is how we got to know and love so many people in different places.

He always had something fascinating to write about his summer vacation after returning to school in September.

As his mother, I will always remember and cherish the memories of traveling and learning and growing together with the most beautiful sons on this earth, Seven Hawks and Ganusquah.

Our experiences and journeys together gave us a life time experience and knowledge that the three of shared and understand deeply with one another.

No one can ever take this from us.
The memory will live in our spirit and hearts forever.

Seven Hawks: The last knife

Although Seven was stabbed numerous times, there is one more deep cut that needs to be addressed.

Betrayal

Jose Alverado was fascinated with the Native culture. He sought out the family and was fascinated with them. Both the boys and Ann McManus. He took advantage of hospitality the family offered. He took advantage of their openness. He wriggled his way into their lives, making himself feel at home. Unbeknown to them, a rage lurked inside.

Alverado turned on them, first on Ann, because he was cut off after having a few (way) too many. Who was to know? Who could have predicted? Why was he carrying around a knife? These loving people were there for him, but he turned on them. Tomorrow Alverado will appear in court.
**He will be pleading not guilty,
**Says he was defending himself
**He is being held on $1 million bond

Dear Ann & Ganusquah

So sorry to read about what happened to Seven Hawks. My heart goes out to you both.

I have been digging through old pictures of Hawkie & Nunny when they were little squirts running with their pack of buddies - catching salamanders, building forts, spray painting my truck. You were all great kids. Please let me know where I can send you some photos.

I've been looking at Hawkie's little face & imagining the handsome, strong warrier he grew up to be, strong enough to defend his mother. I have always had a soft spot for his tenderness. Now I will always honor his courage.

I wish you strength in the coming days for all that you will have to deal with, and I wish you the kind hearted support of your friends & family when you need it.

Your old circle of friends out here send you their love. You will always be in my heart.

Ann and Nunnie,

My heart goes out to the both of you. I am in shock. Know you are all in my prayers. Please accept this eulogy for the family.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die."

Great Spirit Prayer

"Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,

Whose breath gives life to all the world.

Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice

Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.

Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.

I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy

Myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.

So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without sham

Wae Wae Non Ne Mot, Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin

"The Creator above is the Great Spirit and the Great Mystery, His gifts are plentiful therefore you want not. He holds out a branch of love and protection and He draws you to where the ground is undisturbed, where the air is pure and the water is clear and clean enough to give life. You walk, you breathe, you feed, for you are pleasured. The times when your heart is weak, your circle is out of balance, He lifts you up again and draws you to the good Menominee road, for He is strength and wisdom."

Black Elk: Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux

"Grandfather, Great Spirit, once more behold me on earth and lean to hear my feeble voice. You lived first, and you are older than all need, older than all prayer. All things belong to you -- the two-legged, the four-legged, the wings of the air, and all green things that live.

"You have set the powers of the four quarters of the earth to cross each other. You have made me cross the good road and road of difficulties, and where they cross, the place is holy. Day in, day out, forevermore, you are the life of things."

The Murderer of SevenHawks

MERIDEN, Conn. -- Wearing a hospital gown and neck brace, a 48-year-old Meriden man answered to murder charges in court on Monday.

Jose Alvarado is accused in the stabbing death of Seven Hawks Galler, 27. Police said Galler was stabbed several times at an apartment on North Third Street on Friday night.

Police said they believe Galler was stabbed in the midst of a fight that broke out during a party at the apartment.

Police said they found Alvarado bleeding from a head wound on a stairway of the building. He was treated at Hartford Hospital and brought to the police station.

In court on Monday, Alvarado claimed self-defense.

Gasusquah McManus, who lives in one of the building's apartments and is Geller's brother, told police that Alvarado is his mother's boyfriend. He said a fight began when Alvarado started grabbing his mother and was told he couldn't have any more beer.

According to court documents, McManus said, "They were having problems with his mother's boyfriend, Jose Alvarado and that when they tried to get Jose to leave … Jose stabbed Seven Hawks several times."

Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Susan Raff reported that Alvarado was on probation for possession of marijuana at the time of the stabbing.

Outside Meriden Superior Court on Monday, Ann McManus told Eyewitness News what happened to her son in the last few moments of his life.

"He tried to run. I took his shoulder and said, 'You don't look good.' He collapsed at my neighbor's door. I screamed. I saw blood and I knew," she said.

A judge kept Alvarado's bond set at $1 million.
